Guinness Announces new 250 Anniversary Stout

posted on April 16, 2009 in General

For a limited time starting April 24th, Guinness will release their celebratory 250 Stout, the first new stout from St. James Gate in the US since 1967 when the original Guinness Draught Stout was first available.

Guinness describes the stout as:
“Using a unique brewhouse process that combines the use of stout and ale malt, it’s a distinctive carbonated stout with a clean, smooth finish.”

Just got word from Hooser Beer Geek that New Belgium will begin offering Fat Tire, 1554 and Mothership Wit in the 22oz bombers beginning April 20th. Good news to everyone who had to endure the Chicago or St. Louis roadtrips to get your fix.

Beer in Pittsburgh

posted on April 6, 2009 in General

I just finished up listening to the latest Good Beer Show and really enjoyed it. It was a crossover show between the GBS guys, Craft Beer Radio and the Should I Drink That Beercast. They reviewed some really great beers and I learned about a couple of great Pittsburgh beer establishments.

First up is the Church Brew Works. This place looks AWESOME. It’s an old Catholic church that has been converted into a bewpub. I strongly suggest you check out their site and pictures.

I also learned of a cool little micro-brewery called East End Brewing. This place looks like a dream of mine. If I ever get motivated enough to join the brewing fray it would be great to have something like this. It really is a shame that we don’t have more operations like this in Indiana.

Brew your own brew

The guys over at Lifehacker posted an article about homebrewing. I keep going back and forth on whether or not I should jump in but I’m not quite sure I’ve got the patience for it. I have however looked up the local supply store, Great Fermentations. Has anyone else been there? If so what did you think?

Jim Koch’s State-of-the-Craft-Brewing Address

posted on April 5, 2009 in General

On Friday I was shuffling through the multiple Philly Beer Week casts over at Craft Beer Radio and came across a recording of Jim Koch’s speech during the Sam Adams dinner. I found it to be a really interesting and insightful viewpoint on the craft brewing revolution in the United States. It’s definitely worth a listen:
